Teaching

Teaching:

Hi! I coach out of my home studio and the Harlem School for the Arts, where I work primarily with professional and young singers who are passionate about the intersection of music and acting - with an eye toward New York’s audition market.

I was previously on faculty at the Chicago High School for the Arts, where I taught in the Theatre and Music Conservatories. I began my professional teaching career as an aerialist, working as a core staff member at Aloft Circus Arts, the New England Center For Circus Arts, and the Actors Gymnasium and guest-teaching across the U.S. at studios like Suspend Louisville, A-WOL Dance Collective, and Monarca in Flight.

My teaching practices are informed by:

  • a deep respect in the student-teacher relationship - and my experience that all arts find their greatest effect within the context of community

  • the freedom I learned - first, as a young musician, then as a mover, and finally as an actor - that comes from technique

  • the equally important freedom I learned - first, as an actor, then as a mover, and finally as a musician - that comes from imagination

  • a life marked by several key injuries and their rehabilitation, which have buoyed the importance I place on a nuanced understanding of the body and its anatomy both for career longevity and daily ease

  • my own hustle as an actor in the New York audition market, and the joy, curiosity, inspiration, and woes that I draw from it weekly
